Names, Not Numbers: A Holocaust Survivor's Second Rescue

At 89, Anna survived the Holocaust in Kharkiv only to find herself once again in the crosshairs of history. When Operation Kanfei Emuna first reached her amid the war in Ukraine, she represented hope - another Jewish soul we could bring to safety in Israel.

We successfully evacuated her to Kishinev, where she waited to complete her journey to the Holy Land. But fate had other plans. Without warning or choice, emissaries of her daughter's Muslim husband arrived and took her to Turkey, where she found herself isolated, cut off from medical care and contact with the outside world.

"A Holocaust survivor who escaped death once shouldn't have to face isolation and fear again," says Rabbi Yitzchak Halfon. "Every name in our records represents not just a person, but generations of Jewish survival."

Through the dedicated efforts of Operation Kanfei Emuna and our volunteers, we launched a complex rescue operation. Today, Anna is finally home in Israel, her story adding another chapter to the eternal narrative of Jewish rescue and redemption.

From the horrors of the Holocaust, through the dangers of war, to freedom in Israel - Anna's journey reminds us why every name matters, why every rescue counts, why we never stop until every Jewish soul is safe.
