Names, Not Numbers: A Paralyzed Man's Journey from Despair to Hope

In a remarkable story of survival and hope, Yevgenia, a Holocaust survivor from Kharkiv whom we rescued with her ill son 18 months ago, reached out to us again in desperate circumstances. Her other son, Vadim, was facing a medical emergency that local doctors had deemed hopeless.

What began as paralysis in his lower body was rapidly spreading upward, reaching his chest with each passing day. The best medical experts in Kharkiv were at a loss, offering no treatment and no hope. While Vadim and his family had been preparing their documents for aliyah to Israel, his sudden deterioration changed everything.

"No one would help," Yevgenia recalls, her voice breaking. "Every organization we approached turned us away. But Operation Kanfei Emuna remembered us - they remembered my name, my story, my family."

We immediately launched a complex medical rescue operation from bomb-ravaged Kharkiv. The mission required careful medical evacuation to Kishinev, thorough examinations to ensure flight capability, and arranging a specialized medical flight to Israel.

Today, Vadim's story has transformed from tragedy to triumph. After intensive rehabilitation at Beit Loewenstein Hospital, the man who was once completely paralyzed is now taking steps alongside his wife and daughter. He's even beginning the process of obtaining a driver's license.
